How long to melt candy melts?

I'm using candy melts to coat Cake balls and I'm having trouble getting the costing to the right comsistency. I know you microwave in 30 second intervals but how Many intervals should it take to get the melts to the right consistency. I usually try to melt half of a bag or less of Wilton melts at a time
