Is the Franchise Tag for guys like Peyton Manning and Haloti Ngata kind of a slap in the face?

I dislike the franchise tag itself. I have said this before, and I will keep this short. The franchise tag takes the players ability to choose away from him. He is treated like an object and not given a chance to choose. The same goes for Peyton Manning. Despite how well he has done, if the team wants you, then they can keep you. Treat players like employees not objects.
