Question about writing in Hebrew?

Okay I am learning Hebrew and know a very good bit now... I have one problem though, when I write any letters from the Hebrew alefbet. When I write it's hard to tell what the letter is, mainly because you can't differentiate between thick and thin lines with a pencil. How are you supposed to do this? For example some parts of the letter "Alef" are thick while others are thin. In english the letters have the same consistency / thickness.
